Cannabis and the Cosmetic Industry

cannabis cosmetics and makeup

Every day a new beauty trend is flooding social media or a new cosmetic product is being hyped-up, which isn’t surprising since the global beauty industry is a $532 billion business. The United States is the biggest market and holds about 20% of the share, or about $106.4 billion. Even though the majority of consumers are loyal to their existing beauty brands, research shows more than half would be willing to jump ship for natural, clean and sustainable products — and that is allowing cannabis to take the beauty industry by storm. It’s easy to see why in an industry that has just as much to do with feeling good as it does looking good. Cannabis makeup is one of the hottest things in both the cosmetics and cannabis industries!

When it comes to the health of our skin, there are some environmental factors we just can’t control, but with a little help from our friend Mary Jane, we can lessen and possibly slow down the damage. Combining the wellness of cannabis and CBD with the aesthetic of cosmetics isn’t just some fly-by-night-fad.

CBD-Infused Face Creams and Serums

Given all the potential CBD has to offer our skin, brands everywhere are infusing creams and serums with CBD to provide that extra glow we all can use. What makes CBD-infused face creams even more popular is its powerful moisturizing properties, which are beneficial for all skin types. When CBD is applied, topically it penetrates the skin-benefiting both the dermal and subdermal layers. Are you in the market for a phytonutrient power-house eye cream? Cannabis-Infused Mascara

Mascara is a cosmetic staple found in almost every makeup bag, but a lot of people don’t know that traditionally mascara is made from beeswax. Cannabis can replace the beeswax, making it a vegan-friendly option. Since it’s an oil, it helps condition and has also shown promising potential for promoting hair growth. Who doesn’t want longer softer lashes? Milk Makeup recently released their line of cannabis-infused products, including their KUSH mascara.

Cannabis Makeup for Lips

CBD-infused chapsticks, glosses, lip balms, lip scrubs and lipsticks are everywhere! CBD is a superstar when it comes to lip care. Its antibacterial compounds help protect while the antioxidants help repair sore and chapped lips. It can help reduce inflammation caused by cold-sores and minimize irritation. CBD helps lock in natural moisture, keeping lips kissably soft no matter the season.

Hemp-Infused Eyeshadow Palettes

Hemp is packed with essential fatty acids like omega-3, which our bodies don’t produce on their own. Fatty acids help keep our skin soft and healthy while also preventing signs of aging and sun damage. Around our eyes is arguably the most delicate skin on our face. Even well-known brands like Makeup Revolution are using this to their advantage and now offering cannabis-infused eyeshadow palettes

Acne Treatment

Cannabis has potent anti-inflammatory properties that show promising results in treating a plethora of skin ailments such as acne and psoriasis. When we apply an anti-inflammatory to the skin, we are helping to soothe it and are likely to reduce the visible side effects of flare-ups. Cannabis has been shown to help relieve pain and irritation caused by these skin conditions. It is also believed to help suppress breakouts by regulating oil produced by the sebaceous gland.

Anti-Aging Properties

For a long time vitamins C and E were believed to be the strongest antioxidants, but multiple studies have shown cannabinoids to be stronger by up to 50%! Around the age of 20 our body starts reducing the amount of collagen it produces, and free radicals are also responsible for accelerating collagen breakdown. Antioxidants fight and help repair our skin from these damaging free radicals, which may reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

The legalization of cannabis throughout much of the country has resulted in mass education of its endless benefits. It’s growing popularity has resulted in more and more people acknowledging it as a wellness supplement, much like how they view their daily vitamins and starting a regime of their own. Replacing a few of your daily beauty products with cannabis-infused cosmetics is just one of the many easy ways to incorporate it into your daily life and reap the benefits of healthier glowing skin.
