High Times: Building a Cannabis Company Culture That Fosters Happy, Healthy Employees

September 25, 2022 | 2:45 pm | Room 1 | Business / Legal, Finance

Company culture is everything. Yes, the labor market is tight, employee recruiting and retention is challenged by the “Great Resignation” still in full swing, and good benefits don’t come cheap. But a company is nothing without happy, healthy & high-performing employees. This session will unveil HUB’s proprietary tools to help organizations understand who their employees are and what they value in a benefits program—data that can be bifurcated by region, by life stage, among other ways. We’ll also reveal how being part of a benefits captive can help improve your benefits while lowering your costs & share real-life case studies of how the captive is working for HUB’s cannabis clients.

Tim Schermerhorn, Managing Director, HUB International

Tim has 15+ years of experience working with middle market employers on creative risk strategies for their Employee Benefit programs. Since 2016 Tim has specifically helped cannabis employers navigate an insurance market with limited carrier and partner options while functioning as national resource for HUB’s Specialty Cannabis Practice.

Most recently, Tim helped launch HUB’s private Cannabis Captive for Employee Benefits which is exclusive to HUB’s Cannabis, Hemp & CBD clients. He is responsible for the growth and performance of the Cannabis Captive as HUB continues to expand membership across the U.S.

HUB’s Cannabis Captive gives employers access to enhanced benefit options, resources and partners that are unavailable through the traditional insurance carriers. The Cannabis Captive gives members a more robust suite of medical and ancillary carrier options to offer employees while the employer enjoys a more sustainable renewal and cost trajectory year-after-year. This is a revolutionary program, designed to finally give cannabis employers access to the coverage options needed at a sustainable price year-after-year.

Tim holds a B.A. in Economics and Business Management from the University of South Carolina and has been a licensed Health, Life, Accident, Property & Casualty Producer since 2007.
