Kristi currently has two roles in the Office of the Secretary at the Washington Department of Health. As Policy Counsel, she works to establish and implement legislative priorities, including the regulation of medical marijuana in Washington State. As Review Officer, she decides appeals of cases under the authority of the Secretary. Previously, she was Director of the Office of Legal Services and Legislative Liaison for Health Systems Quality Assurance, the division of the Department that regulates health care professions and facilities. Prior to accepting that position in January 2011, she served as Director of Policy and Legislation and Staff Attorney in the Division. Before joining the Department in 2003, Kristi practiced criminal law throughout Western Washington. She received her undergraduate degree in law and justice from Central Washington University in 1989, and her juris doctor from the University of Puget Sound School of Law in 1992.
